Go behind the scenes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

We just got our first look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners by way of a teaser, but, for those who want more, there is some behind the scenes content to check out.

That content is a video from the official Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel in which members people who worked on the game and show provide insight into the process and what we can expect from the show when it releases later this year.

On top of this narration there are many unfinished drawings and animatics like the one you can see above. These were created by Studio Trigger, the famous Japanese animation house which is creating Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

In this behind the scenes look, which you can watch in the embed below, a through line seems to be that the show is exploring elements of Night City which the game didn’t, either by choice from CD Projekt Red or the nature of the videogame medium.

It’s mentioned a few times that the game was focused on immersion and elements such as combat, while Edgerunners wants to make something more grounded and explore other elements of trans-humanism in the near future that don’t involve replacing your arms with giant swords.

As cool as giant sword arms are, a main plot point of the show seems to be a piece of cyberware that protagonist David acquires which seemingly allows him to slow down time / move at super speed.

We see David using this cyberware in a previously unseen clip at around the six minute, thirty second park. He uses this to save a prisoner of the Maelstrom gang, a faction that also featured in Cyberpunk 2077.

For those who want more of this kind of content a second video like this one will be released which will feature Studio Trigger.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will run for 10 episodes when it launches in September on Netflix.
