The Nerf Gjallarhorn will cost almost R3 000, but it’s huge

Last year as part of its 30th Anniversary event, Bungie brought back the iconic rocket launcher from Destiny, Gjallarhorn.

At the time, Bungie also announced that it would release a real-life version of the weapon, albeit a Nerf gun rather than a real rocket launcher.

Now Bungie has provided an update regarding the availability of this Nerf gun as well as some insight into how it was brought to life. The developer says that is been hoping to find a moment to work with Nerf for a while now and with the re-launch of Gjallarhorn (henceforth referred to as Gally) into Destiny 2, Bungie seized the moment.

Now we’ve learned a bit more about this toy and not only does it function as you would expect it to from the game, it’s built to a 1:1 scale in terms of size. Look at this thing!

The blog Bungie penned this week runs over how various design choices were made and the process of transferring one of the most iconic weapons in Destiny into real life. Of note is the fact the the Nerf Gally also features Wolfpack rounds.

“We needed to make sure what we were working on also tied back to the game, which led us to the Wolfpack Rounds. I mean, obviously it’s the main appeal of the Gjallarhorn,” explains Justin Saccone, senior project engineer at Bungie.

“We went with a shell for NERF MEGA darts, which if you’re not familiar, are a little bit bigger than your typical NERF dart. With that shell, we’re shooting three of those MEGA darts at once, which gives that visual sense of the Wolfpack Rounds swirling and flying through the air towards your target. We felt like it was the perfect marriage of the use of the Gjallarhorn in Destiny and bringing it to life in a in a really cool and fun play pattern,” Saccone added.

Even the packaging for the weapon received special consideration. As Bungie tells it, the packaging tells the tale of how your Guardian reacquired Gally from the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon.

As we mentioned last year, players will need to acquire the weapon in-game in order to unlock the Nerf version for purchase. To that end, players have until 7th July to complete the 30th Anniversary Pack quest to acquire Gally. Players will need to be signed up for Bungie Rewards an Bungie Store in order to gain access to the pre-order.

As for price, gird your loins because this puppy doesn’t come cheap. When it was revealed in 2021, Bungie listed the price at $160, but the price has since increased although we don’t know why. Now the Nerf Gjallarhorn will cost you $185 or just over R3 000 depending on the exchange rate.

The Nerf LMTD Destiny Gjallarhorn Blaster can be found here and pre-orders open for players who have earned the weapon on 7th July and close on 21 July. Thereafter, any left over blasters will be made available to anybody.
