Apple’s new M2 MacBook Air lands at iStore today

Last month at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple showed off a new MacBook Air (MBA) fitted with its M2 chip.

Built on a 5nm process, Apple claims the M2’s CPU is 18 percent faster than the M1, the GPU is 35 percent faster than the M1’s GPU and the Neural Engine is 40 percent faster than the previous silicon.

The notebook sports a 13.6inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime camera and an array of four speakers. As this is an MBA, it weights just 1.22kg and measures in at a jaw dropping 11.3mm.

All of this isn’t going to come cheap in South Africa though. This morning iStore announced that the all new MBA would be available to customers starting today.

There are two iterations available:

  • MacBook Air 13-inch Apple M2 chip with 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, 256GB – R23 999.
  • MacBook Air 13-inch Apple M2 chip with 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, 512GB – R29 999.

Buyers who are looking to switch to the Apple ecosystem are able to trade in their Windows notebook at the iStore to get up to R10 000 in value. While there is a tool available online that will help you calculate how much you could get, we recommend heading into your closest iStore and speaking to a human.

It’s not just Windows notebooks you can trade in however.

“iStore customers can now trade in a wide selection of Apple products, Windows PCs as well Android mobiles. Customers can trade in up to five (5) devices towards the upgrade of a new MacBook Air, helping customers to get even more back when they upgrade. Customers will receive the trade-in value upfront to use towards the upgrade of their new MacBook Air, or as an iStore gift card to use at a later date,” the retailer explains.
