Destiny 2’s next raid launches on 26th August

True to its word, Bungie has released a raid and a dungeon alongside every season in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen so far.

This trend is set to continue in August when Bungie brings an old raid out of the Destiny Content Vault. This has already been done once with Vault of Glass in 2021.

The raid that is being brought out of the DCV is yet to be announced, but – mild spoilers – the events of Season of the Haunted and one voice line in particular have led many to believe the raid in question is Crota’s End. Of course, we don’t know for certain, but we will find out on 23rd August during Bungie’s Destiny 2 Showcase.

In this week’s This Week at Bungie update, the developer announced that the next raid would launch of 26th August which is a Friday. This is odd as since Deep Stone Crypt, raid’s have launched on a Saturday.

In conversation with a community member, community manager Liana Ruppert explained that the decision to switch the raid launch to Friday was for developers. The launch of Vow of the Disciple was marred by technical issues and Bungie hopes to avoid that.

Much like every other raid in Destiny history, this raid will be accompanied by a race to be the first team of six to complete the raid. As this raid is one players have likely encountered before there will be some differences compared to Vow of the Disciple.

Here’s what you need to know for the raid race:

  • Contest mode will be enabled for 24 hours. Players should be at 1560 Power for all encounters;
  • The raid must be completed once to unlock Challenge Mode in the Director. A secret Triumph will also be unlocked and become earnable;
  • Teams will then need to complete all of the Challenges associated with the secret Triumph;
  • Failing the Challenge in any particular encounter will automatically wipe the team.

For players who aren’t keen on PvE content, Bungie also detailed exhaustive changes to matchmaking in its PvP mode, Crucible. The changes touch on both skill based matchmaking as well as connection based matchmaking and if you’re at all interested in online multiplayer gaming it’s a rather interesting read.

As for the raid, if you’re in South Africa like us, you likely won’t have to take leave as the raid launches at 19:00 SAST on 26th August.
