Results from Matric rewrites will release next week

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced that the results from the Matric rewrites done in May / June 2022 will be released next week.

The department summarises the announcement below:

  • Results to be released on 03 August 2022.
  • Statement of results to be fetched from exam centre.
  • Combination of credits / results is not automatic: apply at any education office.
  • If you wrote NSC in June, you may register in August to rewrite in November 2022.
  • If you wrote SC in June, you may register in October to write in June 2023.

The above summary does need some explanation as the NSC is the National Senior Certificate which is the Matric qualification with the two terms usually used interchangeably. The SC is the Senior Certificate for adult learners over the age of 21 with its own set of rules.

As for exam centres, while there are many, students are instructed to retrieve their results from the one where they sat for their rewrites.

The turnaround for is rather impressive given the sheer number of students involved and the relatively short time between the end of the rewrite schedule and the 3rd August date.

Almost 300 000 students went to 5 236 exam centres across the country to sit for the exams. The last exam of this period was written at 14:00 on 23rd June with the two hour Business Studies Paper 2.

Students may have chosen to rewrite for any number of reasons including poor health of themselves or family or a death in the family. Simply wanting to increase your marks is also a valid reason in the eyes of the DBE.
