UJ has 200 open postdoctoral fellowships

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has announced an open call to fill 200 postdoctoral fellowships positions.

While a couple dozen open spaces is promising the announcement, available here as a PDF, points out that spaces will be filled on a competitive basis with applicants intended to carry out research and push advancements in their fields. UJ has an idea of what fields it wants these positions to look at, but will not limit applicants in this regard.

“UJ has 200 new postdoctoral fellowships for the 2022/2023 period. We are looking for dynamic candidates who are interested in working on innovative solutions to problems related to the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) as well as on ways of exploiting the transformative potential of 4IR technologies in addressing the global Sustainable Development Goals. The call is, however, not limited to these topics,” the announcement reads.

There is no closing date for applications as they will remain open until the 200 spots are filled. That being said, as the university mentions the competitive nature of the positions, it’s likely best to apply ASAP.

Applicants will need to satisfy the following criteria:

  • “A PhD obtained within the last five years
  • Full CV with contact details for three referees
  • A proposal outlining the plan for the fellowship
  • Proven ability to write and publish papers in accredited peer-reviewed journals [Accredited DHET Journal List on the UJ website]
  • Academic transcripts.”
