WE ARE HIRING: Junior Technology Journalist

Hypertext is looking to add a junior technology journalist to its editorial team.

This position is ideally suited for someone who has a passion for writing, technology and wants to join a growing group of journalists that write engaging and timely content.

The preferred candidate would begin working at Hypertext at the beginning of September 2022, with the position built around a hybrid work environment.

As such, the person chosen to join Hypertext would need to be able to work effectively both remotely at home, as well as come into the office at least two days a week. There will also be a view to increase the number of days as more lockdown regulations ease and the country returns to a relative level of normalcy.

Added to this is a desire and capacity to adapt to new beats if needed, along with an ability to focus on new content requirements for the editorial team.

Those applying should be advised that this position is subject to a three-month probation period, after which a final decision will be made on permanent status. Remuneration will be market related.

The requirements for the preferred candidate are as follows:

  • Tertiary qualification in journalism or a related field;
  • Two years relevant industry experience;
  • An established network of contacts, with the government or education space advantageous;
  • Access to a reliable notebook and ability to work in a hybrid environment;
  • Own reliable transport;
  • Understanding of WordPress or a similar CMS;
  • Ability to record good quality audio for interviews;
  • Comfortable working on a multi-person podcast;
  • Willingness to learn new skills and software;
  • A stickler for detail, grammar and style;
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and in possession of expert time management;
  • An established portfolio of work or links to relevant content.

Those interested in applying for the position must do so before midnight on Friday, 29th July 2022.

Up to date CVs with contactable references must be sent to info@htxt.co.za with Junior Tech Journalist in the subject line.

Please be advised that if you are not contacted within two weeks after the 29th July deadline, your application should be considered unsuccessful.
