AMD gives us a small hint about Ryzen 7000’s arrival

Last week AMD accidentally outed the names of three yet-to-be released CPUs and now this week we have a release period for those CPUs.

The processors in question make use of AMD’s 5nm Zen 4 microarchitecture and will form part of the Ryzen 7000 series. Last week we learned the names of three of these processors, but not much else.

Now, as reported by Tech Powerup, during its Q2 2022 earnings call, AMD chief executive officer Lisa Su outed a release window for the new CPUs.

“Looking ahead, we’re on track to launch our all-new 5nm Ryzen 7000 desktop processors and AM5 platforms later this quarter with leadership performance in gaming and content creation,” said Su.

As we are currently in the third quarter of the year, we can safely read Su’s statement as confirmation that new AMD CPUs should launch before October ends at the latest.

Looking at AMD’s financials for the second quarter one segment of its business stands out – the embedded business. AMD acquired makers of embedded systems and software, Xilinx last year. This acquisition saw AMD’s revenue from this segment grow 2 228 percent year-on-year.

This of course takes into account the inclusion of Xilinx’s revenue, but it’s a staggering amount of growth to report in one year. Of course this isn’t sustainable growth but it sure looks good to shareholders.

More interesting perhaps is the gaming segment of AMD’s business. This segment includes discrete graphics processors and “semi-custom game console products”. In this segment AMD saw revenue climb 32 percent year on year driven by console demand. Curiously, a new slate of GPUs hasn’t helped AMD and it instead saw a decline in gaming graphics revenue.

Looking forward to the rest of the year, AMD anticipates that revenue will grow 55 percent year-on-year to $6.7 billion (with a $200 million grace on either side of that figure) lead by its data centre and embedded segments.

If you’re in the market for a new CPU and motherboard then, it may be worthwhile waiting until AMD drops its new products.
