Andor trailer takes us back to the Galactic Senate

Disney has released the first trailer for Andor, the standalone series focused on the Cassian Andor character portrayed by Diego Luna in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

There’s a lot to see in this trailer but what we focused on immediately is multiple shots of the Galactic Senate and its familiar circular pods in which the senators usually sit.

We saw a lot of the senate in the prequel trilogy of movies and it will be interesting to see what is done with it here, especially as the parts of the prequels which focused on politics are some of the most reviled segments of those movies.

Of particular note in the senate is, pictured above, Genevieve O’Reilly as a young Mon Mothma and Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen. It seems the pair will be double agents working from within the Empire to start the Rebel Alliance.

“The ‘Andor’ series explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero,” reads the description of the show in a press release sent to us.

Another big returning name here is Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. While Saw Gerrera has been featured in other Star Wars media – most notably in the animated shows – most feel like he did very little in Rogue One. Hopefully Andor will have more for Whitaker to do.

The last part of the trailer we want to mention is what seems like a salvage yard. The game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order famously starts in a salvage yard so any time we see one we have to mention it. For those wondering if the series and the game could overlap in terms of timelines, Jedi: Fallen Order takes place in 14 BBY while Andor supposedly starts in 5 BBY and ends in 0 BBY. With a difference of between 14 and nine years it is possible we see Cal Kestis appearing in live action for the first time, but that’s purely speculation.

Andor will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ like all the other Star Wars shows. This will begin on 21st September with a three-episode premiere. After this premiere the remaining episodes of the 12-episode show will be released weekly.
