Apple pushes out security updates for macOS, iOS and Safari

There was a time when Apple products were safe from the reach of cybercriminals, as bizarre as that is to believe. These days, however, Apple products are at just as much risk as everything else.

Case in point – Apple has this week has had to issue security updates for macOS, iOS, iPadOS and Safari. The updates patch zero-day vulnerabilities and Apple says it’s aware that these vulnerabilities may have been actively exploited.

As regards the macOS, iOS and iPadOS vulnerabilities, here attackers could execute code with kernel privileges that would effectively give the malware unfettered access to the device’s operating system. The updates for both operating systems also include a patch for a webkit which could allow an attacker to execute code through a malicious website.

In addition, Safari has also been updated to address a similar flaw that allowed code execution through a malicious website.

Apple users should check to insure they are running the latest versions of these programmes. The latest versions are:

  • macOS Monterey 12.5.1;
  • iOS 15.6.1;
  • iPad OS 15.6.1;
  • Safari 15.6.1.

It’s been a week of updates for Apple users. Earlier this week Zoom had to issue a patch to address a vulnerability following the discovery of a bug. That bug allowed an attacker to leverage Zoom’s auto-update function to slip malicious programmes through.
