HBO serves up snippets for its The Last of Us series

Over the weekend the premiere for HBO’s House of Dragons aired in the United States, with the HBO Max version of the episode crashing for many people using an Amazon Fire Stick.

Hopefully the forthcoming episodes are a lot smoother, but that it is not our primary focus here, with HBO Max also sharing details of upcoming series. Of these, the Last of Us series with Pedro Pascal (playing Joel) and Bella Ramsey (as Ellie) in particular caught our eye.

As did a brief glimpse of Nick Offerman, although it is not abundantly clear which role he is playing in the series.

While we only got to see about 30 seconds worth of footage, things do look promising, although it still remains to be seen how fans of the games will react to the two actors, especially given their affinity for Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson who provided the original voice acting for the characters.

With Neil Druckmann, who wrote and directed both games, working as executive producer on the series, and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin helming part of the project, hopefully things are in safe hands.

As for a date for the series’ release, only the large window of 2023 was mentioned, which gives HBO Max some time to drum up further interest, as well as add some spit and polish if needed.

This trailer also comes at an opportune time, as we are currently playing the PS5 remake of The Last of Us Part I at the moment, and can share our thoughts on this enhanced iteration on 31st August.

While we are still a ways off from its release, it will be interesting to see how South Africans will be able to watch the series legitimately, especially as HBO Max is not available locally yet.

Perhaps a Showmax simulcast is in the offing, as has been the case for other popular HBO series.
