Get used to the Dynamic Island as it will reportedly feature on all iPhone 15 models

  • Supply chain analyst expects Dynamic Island to feature on all models of iPhone 15 next year.
  • The feature could also filter down to less expensive iPhone models by 2024.
  • The standard model will not support 120Hz and Always-On, however.

Last week Friday the iPhone series was made available for pre-order in South Africa, with local recommended pricing revealed too. We, like many others, have made our feelings known about the new hardware, but people are already discussing the iPhone 15 and the Dynamic Island.

For those unfamiliar with the latter, it is a new feature only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max for now, doing away with the screen notch slightly in favour of a pill-shaped selfie camera housing/notification centre combination.

While opinions are mixed on this new feature, it could be a mainstay on iPhone devices in the coming years. This as supply chain analyst Ross Young has weighed in on the Dynamic Island, noting on Twitter that it will likely be made available on all iPhone 15 models next year.

As always when industry analysts weigh in on yet-to-be-revealed hardware, we need to take this with a grain of salt, but seeing as how we reached the same conclusion in our own podcast last week Friday, it seems only logical that the Dynamic Island becomes a mainstay for iPhone down the line.

Interestingly though, Young does point out that not all functionality will be present on the regular model of iPhone sporting a Dynamic Island, with 120Hz refresh rates likely not available due to supply constraints. This may also be the reason why only the Pro models were revealed with the new feature.

The analyst also highlighted whether more “affordable” iPhone models could get the feature in coming years, noting that it will likely only happen in 2024.

As such, with a handful of Android phone makers pushing forward with notch-less displays and foldable screens, Apple is quite content to do things as it sees fit.

With some corners calling for greater innovation, it will be interesting to see if Apple is willing to push the boundaries, which is something it was once famed for.
