Axis launches new series of wearable cameras

Body cameras for police officers are popular in the US and they are starting to find traction here in South Africa.

Locally, some police officers have started wearing body cameras in a bid to both protect officers and to act as a deterrent for corruption.

Now Axis Communications has brought the Axis W101 Body Worn Camera to South Africa and says that it hopes that more industries will make use of the technology.

For instance, courier companies could provide body cameras to employees as an extra layer of security while out on deliveries. Even building security could benefit from the technology.

The Axis W101 Body Worn Camera is capable of recording 1080p footage for 12 hours and it can be charged on the go with any USB Type C charger. The camera employs Axis Zipstream technology to store video without compromising its quality. The camera also complies with “FBI standards for cybersecurity with end-to-end encryption.”

The latest camera also supports more global navigation satellite system services such as GPS, GLONASS and Galileo which provide improved tracking.

“Additionally, it buffers up to 90 seconds before its activated so the whole encounter is captured. Based on open standards, this body
worn camera offers easy integration with AXIS Camera Station and AXIS Case Insight as well as with third-party VMS and EMS, either on-site or in the cloud,” Axis explains in a press release.

The Axis W101 Body Worn Camera is available through local Axis distributors which you can find listed here.
