In recent years, new iPhone reveals have been a tad lacklustre and 2022 looks to be no different. This as Apple unveiled its new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus this evening, both of which are not sporting much in the form of new hardware.

It therefore begs the question as to what fans of the devices will see in purchasing them.

That said, Apple is as buoyant as ever regarding the latest pieces of mobile hardware it is readying to sell to the world.

“Both phones have a powerful new Main camera with a huge leap in low-light performance, advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM, and the incredible performance of A15 Bionic, which helps enable even better battery life. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 16, makes iPhone more essential than ever,” enthused Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, in a blog post.

Running through what is on offer here, the iPhone 14 features a 6.1″ display, while the larger 14 Plus is at 6.7″. Both models, however, have retained the screen notch at the top of the display, with only the Pro variants getting a redesign in that department.

As such, iPhone fans may feel a little short changed.

Other notable aspects include a new 12MP main lens on the rear, with larger pixels and a larger sensor. The aforementioned A15 Bionic chip, which was running on the iPhone 13 Pro is also doing a lot of work to optimise the camera performance for better photo and video, according to Apple.

Like the Mate 50 series revealed by Huawei earlier in the week, the iPhone 14 introduces a new Emergency SOS Satellite system, allowing users to contact help when broadband connectivity is unavailable. This system is limited to the US and Canada for now, rolling out in November.

We are yet to see local retailers reveal pricing or availability for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, but in the States, the former starts at $799 and the latter is priced from $899.
