Sale, update, anime drive new Cyberpunk 2077 sales

  • CD Projekt’s infamous FPS is the top selling game on Steam.
  • The Steam Deck retains its spot in first.
  • A PlayStation publisher sale has affected God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.

Cyberpunk 2077 has made a massive impact on the top selling games list on Steam, driven by several factors including a steep discount, a big new update and the Edgerunners patch.

That top selling list comes to us, as always, from unofficial tracking site Steam Database (SteamDB) which provides a weekly recap of the top 10 performing games on the platform, by revenue generated in the last seven days.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is second on the list behind the Steam Deck, which has been in first place for several months now, this position still means it is the best selling game on the platform.

The current sale on the game is a sizeable 50 percent off which is still live for another 34 hours at the time of writing, leaving more than a day for those interested to pick it up.

While sales are common drivers on this list, something that affected many other games here, Cyberpunk 2077 also has the recent free update, Patch 1.6 which we covered in depth here.

This patch is also meant as a crossover with the Studio Trigger anime Edgerunners, which is being received rather positively right now completing the trifecta of reasons that the game has made it so far up the list.

  1. Steam Deck | 1st last week
  2. Cyberpunk 2077
  3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
  4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
  5. NBA 2K23 |5th last week
  6. God of War
  7. Metal: Hellsinger
  8. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
  9. Days Gone
  10. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered | 4th last week

Pre-orders on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II claim the next two slots in third and fourth. Because of the way that Steam lists different versions of the same game as separate entities, one title can appear multiple times in the same list.

Finally we can circle back to sales again impacting this list. The current PlayStation Publisher Sale ends on 22nd September and it is the reason so many games from the publisher appear on this list.

This includes God of War in sixth place at 20 percent off, Horizon Zero Dawn in eighth with 60 percent off and Days Gone in ninth with also 60 percent off.

Unfortunately for those still eyeing Spider-Man, it is included in the sale. As a relatively new release launching on PC in early August, its place on the list (like last week) is from regular, full price sales.
