UJ to host events on sport, climate justice and student entrepreneurs

Over the last day the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has announced its involvement in a trio of events that students and interested parties should take note of.

The focus of these events varies wildly and each one offers unique opportunities to participate.  We’ve collated the available information for each in easy to read sections below. 

UJ Sports Conference 

“[UJ] Sport, together with the Department of Sport and Movement Studies, will be hosting the 3rd UJ Sports Hybrid Conference… The Conference will coincide with the International Day of University Sport (IDUS) on 20 September 2022. The 3rd UJ Sport Conference seeks to explore and provide solutions on addressing factors that contribute to students’ wellbeing, performance, and overall student experience, ultimately creating a healthy campus to live, study and work on and sharing different approaches amongst universities, globally,” an announcement reads.

Public lecture on: Climate Justice Movement histories and trajectories 

The UJ Faculty of Humanities in partnership with the European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has organised this lecture on Climate Justice (CJ) which it calls an ideological movement that has come to the fore over the last two decades. 

The speaker is Professor Patrick Bond, the professor of Sociology at UJ. 

“…a scholar of political economy, political ecology and social movements, [he] has worked with Climate Justice struggles in local and global settings since Johannesburg hosted the 2002 World Summit for Sustainable Development, and he co-organised the civil society People’s Space at the 2011 UN climate summit in Durban,” reads part of the scholar’s bio.

University of Johannesburg Technology Transfer Office Intellectual Property Hackathon (UJTTO IP-athon) 

“In the UJTTO IP-athon you will work in teams to develop a venture idea around a valuable technology. At the end of the IP-athon, teams whose ideas are deemed feasible, will be supported to continue development of the venture, giving you the possibility of being a co-founder of a valuable new business,” the event description states.
