Unisa to livestream Es’kia Mphahlele Annual Memorial Lecture

This week the University of South Africa (Unisa) will host the 13th Es’kia Mphahlele Annual Memorial Lecture in Polokwane with those not attending still able to watch proceedings by way of a livestream.

That livestream can be watched in the embed at the bottom of this page on YouTube, kicking off at 18:00 local time on 8th September.

These annual events are meant to celebrate the live of the renowned author who passed in 2008.

As for what watchers can expect, the event has an overall theme, that being “The Missing Variable and the Wrong Data Set: Prof Es’kia Mphahlele the Intellectual”. Unisa has also highlighted several objectives of the memorial lecture –

  • honour the legacy of the late Prof Es’kia Mphahlele and to acknowledge his contributions to literary discourse and the social development
  • generate debate that contributes to pubic discourse;
  • stimulate intellectual dialogue on literary discourse and contemporary issues; and
  • advance Unisa’s social impact through teaching and learning, community engagement and critical research.

The lecture will be managed by Professor Puleng LenkaBula (Principal and Vice Chancellor of Unisa) and Doctor Lesiba Molepo (Acting Regional Director, Unisa North-Eastern Region). The main presentation, however, will be delivered by Professor Itumeleng Mosala who holds several titles.

“Executive Director: Still Nascent Venture, Published Author, Social Commentator, Editor, Renowned Speaker and Commissioner of the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers and Secretary of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, Fraud and Corruption in the Public Sector including State Organs (Zondo Commission),” the announcement reads.
