A new streaming service is set to be made available both locally and throughout the rest of the African continent thanks to a partnership between DStv and NBC Universal. That service is called Universal+ and it will officially launch next month on 14th October.

“From must-watch dramas to the very best reality series, Universal+, which is currently available in Spain, Brazil, Latin America and India, boasts a huge selection of full boxsets to binge, new shows and movies from popular linear channels Universal TV, E!, DreamWorks, Studio Universal and Telemundo – all in one convenient place,” the pair confirmed in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“DStv subscribers will be able to stream thousands of hours of compelling entertainment, including the SAFTA award-winning Celebrity Game Night, by visiting Catch Up on the DStv App or connected Explora and selecting Universal+,” it adds.

The addition of streaming services is nothing new for DStv customers, with Netflix bundled into select models of decoder.

That said it will be interesting to see how much the forthcoming service will be streamed by those with a DStv account, given that we knew little about its existence prior to the announcement.

Either way, the breadth of streaming platform options is growing in SA.

“From 14 October, the incredible line-up of entertainment available to DStv customers ranges from award-winning original production Celebrity Game Night – which shortly goes back into production for a fourth season – to gripping dramas and Hollywood blockbusters. And, it’s all at no extra cost to a subscription,” the MD concluded.
