Black Friday returns to Game in a big way this year

  • South African retail mainstay Game has announced that its one-day Black Friday sale is back this year.
  • This year the retailer will open from midnight ensuring shoppers can take advantage of some of its “biggest deals ever.”
  • Game says there will be more ways this year than ever before to buy on Black Friday, including an ecommerce and lay-buy option.

The return of shopping pandaemonium is imminent in South Africa, and Massmart-owned retail giant Game says it’s bringing back its regular one-day-a-year super sale after two consecutive years of month-long “Black November” deals.

According to a press release sent to Hypertext, Game is returning to its one-day Black Friday sale roots and bringing back midnight openings in 2022, as consumer shopping habits continue to return to normal after COVID-19 and its subsequent spates of lockdowns.

On Friday, 25th November the retailer will open most of its 108 stores across the country from 00:00 – 20:00 giving shoppers maximum hours to take advantage of Game’s Black Friday deals.

“Following the success of our inaugural Halfway Day sale in July, it has become clear to us that the South African consumer is ready to return to one-day sales,” says vice president of Game Andrew Stein.

Of course, Black Friday sales are infamous for consumption-induced chaos and stampedes have occurred in the past. Stein says that this year Game is ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place during the sale.

Game says it will have an assortment of products available at heavily discounted prices across its categories, specifically shoppers can expect major deals on electronics, appliances, homeware, DIY and outdoor products.

Game has gone on a store revamping initiative over the last year and hopes this will aid in customer navigation. Stein adds that this year’s sale will have “some of the best deals we’ve had for Black Friday yet.”

The retailer is also offering its largest-ever online range for 25th November, giving those consumers who prefer to shop from home more choices. Game is offering free delivery on all online orders over R450 made between 00:01 and 23:59 on Friday.

“We’re also offering more ways to pay than ever, including a new layby offering that has a 0% deposit and six months to pay” Stein adds.

Game has yet to announce its largest discounts in electronics and appliances, but Hypertext will keep you covered in the weeks heading into Black Friday 2022.
