1997 Berserk anime heading to Netflix in December

  • One of the most popular mangaka of all time, Berserk’s creator, Kentaro Miura, passed away almost 18 months ago.
  • The manga will continue posthumously, with the 2016 anime series also heading to streaming platforms.
  • Now Netflix is adding the 1997 anime series to its platform from 1st December.

Arguably one of, if not the best manga of all time, Berserk, lost its creator Kentaro Miura in May of last year. The manga is set to continue posthumously, with the anime series for Berserk also finding its way onto streaming platforms of late.

Recently, Crunchyroll added a special edition of the 2016 anime series, which has proved divisive given its 3D animation. One version of the series that is beyond contestation, however, is the 1997 anime, which is reportedly heading to Netflix as of 1st December.

This is according to a report by Gizmodo, which says the OLM-created 1997 series is making its way to the streaming platform.

At the time of writing it is unclear which regions the anime will be made available in, with licensing potentially playing a role in terms of who will be able to access it via Netflix.

Hopefully though, South African fans of the manga and anime will be able to stream it, given that it such a beloved piece of media.

There could also be more on the Berserk front in December, with Gizmodo highlighting the fact that a countdown timer has appeared on the anime’s official website since last month.

The date that it is counting down to is in mid-December, so we could see more Berserk-related content on the way.

That said, the countdown appears to be related to the aforementioned special edition of the anime, which is available on Crunchyroll. As such, we could see new episodes added to the mix or indeed some kind of animated movie.

Either way, it looks like we will see the Guts theme getting some heavy playtime in December.
