SAP partners with Coursera to open access to developer skills

  • SAP held its EdTech conference this week, announcing initiatives aimed at training developers and making low-code solutions more widely available.
  • The company wants to train as many as two million developers worldwide by 2025.
  • To assist in that plan it has partnered with Coursera via its Learning platform.

This week SAP held its TechEd conference, where the company announced a number of initiatives aimed at upskilling developers across the globe. Currently SAP is working towards training as many as two million developers worldwide, partnering with Coursera in the process to help reach that goal.

To that end, it acknowledges the increasing premium put on the skills and insights only professional developers can deliver. The partnership with Coursera will now see triple the amount of free learning offerings on the SAP Learning site

SAP says that the initiative will help people launch careers within its ecosystem, and potentially empower underserved audiences when it comes to access to, as well as understanding, technology.

“I’m happy to announce that today SAP is launching an entry-level professional certificate on Coursera. This certificate is designed for learners of all backgrounds, with no college degree or industry experience required,” enthused Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera Inc., regarding the announcement.

“It will prepare learners for entry-level job roles and in some of the most in-demand fields. We’re honored to partner with SAP to increase access to job-related skills and to expand economic opportunity for everyone,” he added in a press release sent to Hypertext.

Along with the partnership, SAP also announced that its Build platform is working to help developers create better experiences for customers. Here it will offer business users access to the full power of SAP BTP and business application data from SAP.

“Users can easily integrate systems; intelligently monitor, analyze, and automate processes; and build applications for the last mile of innovation – all without moving their data into an external system,” the company adds.

“Worldwide, IDC expects more than 100 million business professionals will become involved in the production of digital solutions over the next ten years. SAP Build’s low-code development solutions empower business users to harness their domain expertise to rapidly build and iterate on digital solutions at scale,” highlighted Arnal Dayaratna, Research VP for Software Development at IDC.
