Twitch rolls out Guest Star as a tool for streamers to host talk shows

  • As we near the end of the year, it looks like Twitch is making more features available to its streaming community.
  • One of these features is Guest Star, which was tested out in a limited beta earlier this year.
  • It is now rolling out to all streamers and will allow them to host their own talk shows more easily.

This week Twitch has made a number of announcements for its platform, some of which are aimed at getting viewers to subscribe to creators and others designed for streamers in particular.

For the latter, the platform announced that its Guest Star tool is rolling out to all creators, with it previously being tested out in a limited beta earlier this year.

As reported by TechCrunch, Guest Star will allow creators to pull other creators and their fans into a live stream to make a quasi-talk show environment. Up to five streamers can be pulled into a stream at once via Guest Star, with the main host capable of managing the collaborative effort from Twitch Studio and OBS.

Set to roll out to all users on the platform in the coming days and weeks, depending on the region, the new tool will be accessible on the creator dashboard inside of Twitch.

Along with getting streamers to collaborate, Guest Star allows fans in chat to feature on the stream too, which could prove a nice incentive for donations or to reward a chatter for their engagement with a creator.

To ensure that things do not get out of control, as will likely be the case when getting chat involved, creators will be able to toggle audio controls for guests, along with being able to enable/disable their video and remove them from the stream completely if needed.

It remains to be seen whether Guest Star will take off on Twitch, but it may prove an interesting way for creators to engage more and diversify their content.

As for the other announcements from Twitch this week, it is also looking to get more viewers subbing. On this front, the company has revealed a promotional offer for Microsoft’s PC Game Pass, with a three-month long trial to the service available to those who subscribe to a streamer between 3rd and 11th November.

It should also be noted that this promotion is for newcomers to PC Game Pass and current account holders are not eligible. It’s limited to specific countries too, with SA listed, by Twitch.

“The code is redeemable for new Game Pass members located in the below-listed countries only. Existing or past Game Pass members or users who have previously claimed a Game Pass trial are ineligible,” Twitch explained in a blog post.

“Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam,” are the aforementioned countries.
