How to check matric results online

The 2022 edition of the matric exams is wrapping up, after a long November filled with studying, writing and stressing.

Today is the 28th day of the 30-day examination and so far 215 out of 222 question papers have been written by matric students. The only papers left are Music Theory and Comprehension, Dramatic Arts and a series of rewrites greenlit by the Department of Basic Education.

For those still writing or looking to write, you can find exam timetables and other resources here. If you’re looking for last-minute cramming, here is a list of sites you can use.

However, if you’re one of many students that are hopefully cleared of exams you will no doubt be thinking of two things: your matric vacation and your exam results.

We can aid you with one of these. It is important to note that many of these systems worked for matrics writing in 2021 – 2022 so some may not work, others may be changed and completely new methods may be introduced this year.

How to find your matric exam 2022 results:

According to the department, the results for the 2022 matric exams will be released on 20th January 2023. As such the results have yet to be posted, but on the 20th, you should first check out the department’s website.

Remember any of the websites that you use to receive your results may face incredibly high traffic on release day, so you can expect some delays.

There should be a quick link here that will take you to another page, asking for your examination number. This will take you to your results. You can now download them or print.

Students in Gauteng can make use of the newly added results portal, created by the Gauteng department of egovernment. It can be found here.

Simply head to this site on the 20th January and follow the on-screen instructions.

Another option is the Media24 portal that the publication opens for matric results. The portal is not functioning as of time of writing, but you can save the link for the 20th.

At the portal, you can input your examination number, select which exam type you wrote (either IEB or NSC) and you will be taken to your results.

For IEB students, the IEB website has a portal that will allow you to receive your exam results. The IEB exams end earlier than the NSC exams, with the last paper written on 29th November.

Here you can enter your exam number and date of birth to access your results. Note, only students going to IEB schools can access these results. IEB exam results are expected to be released one day earlier than NSC results, 19th January 2023.

Another method you can use is using SMS or USSD codes, which worked for the 2021 – 2022 exams through a partnership with the SABC.

For SMS, simply:

  • Send your examination number to 45856;
  • The system will verify your details;
  • You will be charged R1.50 per message.

This is always a stressful period for students and maybe will find that they don’t know what to do next. If you’re considering tertiary studies, check out our list of where you can find available bursaries online right now.
