Latest MacBook Pro devices now available for pre-order in SA

  • The recently announced M2 chip-powered MacBook Pro notebooks are now available for pre-order in the local market.
  • You can choose the device in either the 14-inch or 16-inch configuration with either the M2 Pro or M2 Max chip.
  • The M2 Max version is Apple’s highest-tier notebook with unbridled performance power and at an enormous price point.

Tuesday finally saw Apple announce its latest highly anticipated MacBook Pro devices after a year of rumours and small updates. These notebooks will come with Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max chips that are set to greatly boost performance power.

The new devices have now been listed for pre-order in the local market and can be found here.

They are available in both 14-inch and 16-inch configurations and start from the whistle-inducing R42 999.

Both the 14-inch and 16-inch configurations have M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, but models with M2 Max chips are significantly more expensive owing to the fact that they require a 30-core GPU and 32GB unified memory (which includes RAM and video RAM).

The 16-inch configuration with the M2 Max chips is a real wallet destroyer at R73 999, and at R80 998 with iCare Plus.

So what are you getting at that price?

Well, both the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are designed for processor-intensive workflows. Apple highlights that the chips are “the world’s most powerful and efficient chips for pro laptops” which are “6x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro.”

“A next-generation GPU with up to 19 cores delivers up to 30 percent more graphics performance, and the Neural Engine is 40 percent faster, speeding up machine learning tasks like video analysis and image processing,” Apple indicated during the original announcement.

“The powerful media engine in M2 Pro also tears through the most popular video codecs, dramatically accelerating video playback and encoding while using very little power.”

Apple’s new notebooks also have up to 22 hours of battery life, depending on the specification.

For users who are looking for raw and unbridled performance, the new M2 range of MacBook Pros will surely not let you down. It is the ideal notebook for video editing, 3D artwork, data modelling, gaming, wearing black turtlenecks, and flexing on all your friends.

The M2 chip MacBook Pros will be launched in South Africa on 27th January 2023.
