• Black Panther: Wakanda Forever proved to be a box office success, raking in $800 million worldwide by late December.
• Now it is finally making its way to Disney+, landing on the streaming platform on 1st February. 
• It will also be accompanied by a podcast, detailing the behind the scenes making of the project.

Last year following the local release of Disney+, the platform routinely saw big screen Marvel films arrive while the movies were still in South African cinemas, as was the case with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. 

While it did not get quite the same treatment, likely down to its significant box office success, now Disney+ is set to receive Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We dubbed the film a “worthy successor” when we reviewed it last year, so it will not surprise us if Wakanda Forever is one of the most streamed films on the platform for the next few months at least. 

If you are wanting to dive deeper into how the film came about, especially given the passing of its lead character Chadwick Boseman before production began, Disney is also making access to a podcast series available. 

“In anticipation of the film’s upcoming streaming debut, Proximity Media, in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment, released ‘Wakanda Forever: The Official Black Panther Podcast.’ Audiences are invited to listen and learn about the exciting and emotional journey to make the film over the course of six episodes,” highlighted Disney in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The first episode is out now on the “Wakanda Forever: The Official Black Panther Podcast” feed, available on all major podcast platforms and at ProximityMedia.com,” it added.

If you have been perusing Disney+ of late, it is now just Marvel content that has been populating its library. In recent weeks we have spotted far more content from 20th Century Fox, FX, ESPN, and National Geographic feature on the streaming platform.

Added to this is the addition of a “Start From Beginning” button on content too, so it looks like the user interface is getting addressed.

While we were quite underwhelmed by the UI and general experience on Disney+ at launch, perhaps the local availability of Wakanda Forever means things are going to improve on the service moving forward.
