Thor breaks the mould, arrives on Disney+ 22nd September

Today, 22nd August, was when we estimated that Thor: Love and Thunder would arrive on streaming by way of Disney+ based on past movies. We were wrong, however, and it will instead arrive with a lot of other content come 8th September.

As we discussed last month both Lightyear and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness spent only 47 days as cinema exclusives before launching on Disney+. As Thor: Love and Thunder launched in theatres on 6th July so we expected the Disney+ release to come today.

That’s not the case as Disney has sent us a pre-release for Disney+ Day which reveals the release date for the latest Thor movie as well as many others.

“Disney+ Day will deliver even more excitement to subscribers with additional content premiering globally on September 8. The Disney+ Day lineup will feature anticipated global premieres from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, The Simpsons, and more,” the press release reads.

The list of content premiering on the day can be seen in the list below which we have organised into alphabetical order.

  • Cars on the Road
  • Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory
  • Frozen and Frozen 2 Sing-Alongs
  • Growing Up
  • Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Mike
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return
  • Pinocchio
  • She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (New episodes streaming Thursdays)
  • Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Wedding Season
  • Welcome to the Club (a new short from The Simpsons)

For those who still haven’t seen Love and Thunder, check out our spoiler-free review here.

While reading through the list above we thought that “A Jedi’s Return” was some kind of subtitle for more content from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

We were correct but it’s not more episodes or a second season or anything like that.

“This special explores the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to the screen, as well as Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to their classic roles. Director Deborah Chow leads the cast and crew as they create new heroes and villains that live alongside new incarnations of beloved Star Wars characters, and an epic story that dramatically bridges the saga films,” reads the description of the special.

This is then similar to the various Marvel Studios Assembled specials which provide extra insight into the making of the various MCU projects, and we will also be getting one for Thor: Love and Thunder on 8th September.

Finally, as if all this wasn’t enough, Disney+ Day leads directly into the D23 Expo taking place between 9th and 11th September, where there will likely be more reveals and releases.
