• Before Mobile World Congress (MWC 23) officially kicks off next week, HMD Global has announced three new Nokia phones.
• The new devices are the Nokia G22, C32, and C22.
• All are said to offer great value for money and up to three days of battery life.

Mobile World Congress (MWC 23) officially kicks off next week, but as is often the case, a handful of companies have opted to showcase the latest devices a little bit early. One such company is HMD Global, which has announced three new Nokia phones.

The devices in question are the Nokia G22, C32, and C22, with all three phones boasting up to three days of battery life, according to the manufacturer.

The G22 also features something special in the form of a collaboration with iFixit, allowing owners of this device to repair it if they want thanks to a kit. At the time of writing this kit may not be widely available, so it remains to be seen whether HMD will partner with a South African company on the repairability of the G22.

“People value long lasting, quality devices and they shouldn’t have to compromise on price to get it. The new Nokia G22 is purposefully built with a repairable design so you can keep it even longer,” added Adam Ferguson, head of Product Marketing at HMD Global, in a press release sent to Hypertext.

Sticking with the new G series phone, it has a back cover made from 100 percent recycled plastic. HMD also notes that it is good for at least two years of Android OS updates, and three years of monthly security updates.

Moving to the C series Nokia phones, both are said to deliver solid durability.

The C32 packs a 50MP primary camera on the rear, a toughened glass display, and is running Android 13 right out of the box. The C22 is IP52 rated for waterproofness and dust resistance, with a 2.5D toughened screen, rigid metal body, and dual 13MP camera on offer at the back.

At the time of writing, local availability and pricing for these three new Nokia phones are yet to be confirmed, but those details are expected in the coming weeks.

Last worth mentioning in terms of HMD announcements, is that the company’s bringing its smartphone manufacturing to Europe, with a focus on 5G specifically. No word on who its manufacturing partners are, or indeed what that will mean for regions like South Africa.

The Nokia brand has a proud history within the European market, and with this move, we are continuing to strengthen our position as the only major European smartphone provider,” added Jean-Francois Baril, co-founder, chairman and CEO of HMD Global.
