Samsung has officially launched its latest flagship phone – the Galaxy S23 Ultra. While we are yet to test out the phone in full, it is already shaping up to be one of, if not the most powerful phones released by the South Korean manufacturer to date.
Among its many high-specced components, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is running the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Added to this is a new rear camera array, which is led by a massive 200MP sensor, nearly doubling what was available on the previous model.
With these new components comes a higher price tag to, with Samsung Mobile South Africa confirming that the S23 Ultra will retail for a recommended R32 999. That is quite a bit more than the S22 Ultra, which launched last year in SA for R28 999.
So what are you getting for R4k more?
We still need to run the new device through the gamut of testing, but we can at least compare the specifications on paper. To that end, you can compare what is on offer from each device below.

As you can see from the table, there is little to split the two devices, with a key difference being the larger primary camera lens and updated processor. Whether that is worth the R4k difference remains to be seen, especially as the photography performance on the S22 Ultra was a standout last year.
It will therefore be interesting to see whether the S23 Ultra will outperform its predecessor in terms of sales locally.
