MultiChoice partnering with Vumatel on FTTH

  • MultiChoice has announced a partnership with Vumatel that will see it offer fibre packages for the home.
  • This will see uncapped lines bundled together with existing television subscriptions.
  • Full pricing and line speed options are yet to be confirmed, but they do start from R699 per month.

MultiChoice has announced a new partnership with local infrastructure service provider Vumatel. The pair are working specifically on Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) packages for MultiChoice customers.

These standalone fibre packages are available to customers who reside within regions that Vumatel has fibre coverage, with uncapped lines on offer.

A full list of line speed options, as well as recommended pricing, is still in the offing, but the packages start from R699 per month, the pair confirmed in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“MultiChoice customers will have more uncapped line speeds to choose from, and can bundle digital television subscriptions (DStv) and uncapped fibre from as little as R699 per month and save,” said release explains.

“The expansion to an entertainment ecosystem allows MultiChoice to continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of its customers. MultiChoice continues to invest significantly in its video entertainment business while also targeting select segments that are adjacent to its core business including solutions in cybersecurity; sports betting; connectivity; on-demand medical and armed response; insurance and rewards – all linked on one platform,” it adds.

Those interested in acquiring a fibre line from MultiChoice will need to do so via the Vumatel website, but this announcement does not come on the best day, as Johannesburg residents have suffered from connectivity issues and network outages for most of today, with Vumatel cited as one of the providers struggling.
