This evening Samsung held its first Galaxy Unpacked for 2023, where the main focus was its latest lineup of 23 flagship phones. Along with the new handsets, Samsung also unveiled hardware in the form of three models of notebook under the Galaxy Book3 moniker.

These include a traditional notebook, a convertible, and an Ultra model capable of some light gaming.

Before you start enquiring about whether these new devices are headed to South Africa, we have confirmation from Samsung Mobile SA that they will not land locally any time soon. In fact, during a pre-media briefing for Galaxy Unpacked, the company’s local product managers noted that the Galaxy Book3 lineup is not expected in South Africa during the first half of 2023.

Whether that will change in the latter half of the year remains to be seen, but general sentiment seems to indicate that South Africa is not a key territory for the company when it comes to notebooks. It is unclear if this is simply a case of the market being saturated by other OEMs with Windows-powered notebooks, but Samsung has been lax when it comes to making this hardware segment available locally, unlike its smartphones and tablets.

It is a real pity too, as the Galaxy Book3 range features some solid offerings too, all of which have been designed to be integrated into the Samsung device ecosystem, specifically to make collaboration between notebook and smartphone more seamless.
