Anti-corruption task force looks for app developer

  • The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is on the hunt for an application developer, according to its latest series of available vacancies.
  • Once hired, the app developer will be designing and creating applications for teams at the SIU to use internally.
  • Among a list of necessities, applicants need to be well-versed in programming languages like Java, C#, .Net and Python.

The South African anti-corruption task force, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is looking for an application developer, according to the latest vacancies published by the entity.

The SIU, which is usually embroiled in investigations like the Northlink College situation that occurred late last year, seeks to recover government funds lost through mismanagement, dodgy tenders and general corruption as one part of its mandate.

According to the vacancy post, the SIU is looking for an applications developer for a two-year fixed contract, based in Tshwane Metro. The application closes soon on 4th April, so interested parties should check it out before it expires.

The task force says the main purpose of the post is to, “To develop and modify source code for software applications. To create and test applications designed and developed for use within SIU, applying knowledge of the system development lifecycle in developing new applications.”

Furthermore, applicants will have to, “Manage the applications lifecycle by applying knowledge of coding principles in developing applications. To collaborate with other Business Units and ICT team members in planning for, designing, developing and deploying applications.”

So it seems that the SIU is looking to improve internal access to apps and build its own for its teams to use.

The app developer will have to:

  • “Understanding client requirement and how they translate to new application features,
  • Design and create prototypes according to specifications,
  • Writing high-quality code to program compete applications on schedule,
  • Perform unit and integrated testing before launch,
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing,
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications,
  • Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features,
  • Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code.”

It says that applicants should be well versed in the design and development of applicants, as well as working languages like Java, C#, .Net and Python.

The salary range is around R340 631 – R460 060 per annum, and preference will be given to applicants from designated groups, “in particular Africans, Coloured and people with disabilities in line with the SIU Employment Equity Plan.”

It is also offering other positions, including Chief Forensic Lawyer (Limpopo), Practitioner SCM – Demand and Disposals – Travel Management (Gauteng), Personal Assistant to Provincial Head (Free State), three investigation administrators, a Management Accountant, as well as a Manager: Knowledge Management.
