Complete your Metroid collection with these

Metroid is back in the news thanks to the recent release of Metroid Prime Remastered but, for those with a vast collection of merch from the series, there is a lot more available in South Africa.

The Official Nintendo Online Store stocks a variety of products from the many adventures of Samus that are all available right now with shipping all over South Africa.

For those in Gauteng, you can also visit the physical store in the Sandton City Shopping Centre by going to the Nintendo Switch Pop-Up Zone.

Whether in person or online, what Metroid items can you pick up to bolster your collection?

Metroid Prime Remastered physical edition

We have to start the list with Metroid Prime Remastered with its physical edition now available on South African shelves.

Re-experience what many consider their favourite Metroid game with upgraded graphics, sound, controls and more.

Metroid Prime Remastered has rebuilt this classic for 2023 and it is a perfect use of the Nintendo Switch. Enjoy exploring an improved version of Tallon IV either in handheld or docked mode, where you can change your control scheme to fit whatever control type you like. Sit back with a Joy-Con in each hand using motion controls or play Metroid Prime Remastered like a modern FPS – the choice is yours.

Metroid Dread physical edition

Many attribute the recent wave of hype to Metroid Dread which did what many thought was impossible: bringing back classic 2D Metroid in the modern age.

Metroid Dread has been applauded for its tight gameplay, faithfulness to past Metroid titles and even its light horror elements as Samus finds a way to defeat the seemingly indestructible E.M.M.I robots.

If you missed this game now is a great time to pick it up, especially the physical edition to adorn your shelf.

Metroid Dread amiibo 2-pack

Nintendo is still going strong with its amiibos and one of the best recent examples is this double pack for Metroid Dread, featuring Samus in that great new, blue suit, and the white E.M.M.I robot.

Unlike other figurines that simply look good on display, these amiibo have added functionality both granting you extra consumables for use in the game. Samus gives you extra health while the E.M.M.I gives out missiles. Scan both into your Metroid Dread game to receive daily bonuses too.

These are just the bonuses for Metroid Dread, so look out for other games in the Nintendo stables that give you extra rewards when scanning these in.

Amiibo Dark Samus

If your amiibo collection needs a little something darker in a sea of heroes and cartoon villains, look no further than Dark Samus.

Dark Samus is a staple of the Metroid Prime subseries, making this amiibo even more special as Metroid Prime Remastered enters the limelight.

While looking great in its own right with a menacing floating pose, this Dark Samus also makes the perfect companion for those who own other Samus amiibo, like the one from the 2-pack above.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our last Metroid collectable is a game, but not a Metroid game.

The ensemble fighting game to end all ensemble fighting games, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate prides itself with being stacked with everyone’s favourite characters from Nintendo and beyond, including the Metroid franchise.

Samus, Dark Samus, Zero Suit Samus and Ridley are all playable characters here giving you a large amount of champions to play with, even if you just want to main those from Metroid.

With the Metroid series so focused on single-player, it’s also great to have a game featuring Metroid characters that has multiplayer, so you can enjoy them with others.

Like Metroid Prime Remastered and Metroid Dread, this is another physical edition of the game so you can enjoy the software while having a permanent memento in the form of the game cart and box.
