ExploreAI Academy partners with ALX to train 25 000 African data scientists

  • The ExploreAI Academy has announced a partnership with technology training provider ALX.
  • The partnership will see ExploreAI train 25 000 African students on data science over the next 18 months.
  • In 2022, the institution passed the 3 000 mark for graduates, with 90 percent said to be employed after their training.

Local data science training institution ExploreAI Academy has announced a partnership with international technology training provider ALX. Moving forward, the pair will be working on training African students in data science, with an initial plan of 25 000 people over the next 18 months.

ExploreAI Academy also notes that the partnership is part of its plan to expand its international community of skilled professionals with qualifications to, “evolve with the digital economy’s demands.”

“As developed economies face increasing skills shortages in the digital and tech sectors, players like ALX are increasingly looking to Africa as an emerging source of skilled young talent,” it added in a press release sent to Hypertext.

The aforementioned 25 000 target is a significant step up from what ExploreAIU has mustered to date, having passed the 3 000 student threshold in 2022, with 90 percent of its graduates said to now be employed in a number of local industries.

“We believe our model of teaching data science, data engineering, AI, and related skills is making a significant impact in addressing the dire shortage of these particular skills in South Africa and across the continent,” enthused ExploreAI Academy founder, Shaun Dippnall.

“ALX is connected to a broad ecosystem of institutions with a collective mission to harness Africa’s abundant human capital by developing ethical and entrepreneurial young leaders from across the continent. We are proud to be part of that international partnership,” he continued.
