HP’s new Smart Tank 5000 series features spill-free ink refills that take 15 seconds

  • HP has unveiled its new Smart Tank 5000 series of printers.
  • This new addition to its Smart Tank lineup features a spill-free ink refill system that refills in 15 seconds.
  • The new printer is also made from 45 percent post-consumer recycled content.

Printers are far from the sexiest pieces of kit in the office, but when one is not close at hand or has run out of ink, you feel it. To make the refilling process easier, cleaner, and quicker, HP has announced a new feature found on its latest Smart Tank 5000 series of printers.

This new ink refill system is spill-free, according to the company, which means zero wastage and no mess. It can also refill in 15 seconds, and is specifically designed for setup and use in a small office or home office environment.

No precise local availability or pricing has been mentioned yet, but the Smart Tank 5000 series is earmarked for South Africa, and we could see it in the latter half of 2023. Stateside, the range is expected to start retailing at $280 (~R5 106).

“With the addition of the HP Smart Tank 5000 series, people who print a lot at home have access to a range of high quality, reliable and sustainable printing solutions, tailored for their exact needs,” noted Yesh Surjoodeen, Southern Africa MD at HP, in a press release sent to Hypertext.

Other noteworthy elements to the new series is its sustainable design, which is something that HP hammered home as a key focus at last year’s Amplify event. Here the series is made from 45 percent post-consumer recycled content, as well as featuring an energy-saving Auto On/Off function, not to mention the no-waste tank and spill-free recyclable bottles.

Added to this is the ability to automatically detects IDs and prints with the ID copy button, along with intelligent WiFi, as well as HP Smart App and Smart Advance integration for easier connectivity options. There’s also an ink management system that monitors and maintains ink levels with unique sensors.

Lastly, it has HP Wolf Essential Security embedded to protect sensitive information from potentially being stolen.
