The africast returns this week to discuss streaming. No we’re not complaining about Netflix and password sharing again. Rather our focus is streaming sports, which is something that South Africans are crazy about.
To that end we discuss how you can legally access different popular sports in SA, looking namely at the options available for football, rugby, cricket, motorsport, wrestling, and more. We also discuss monthly pricing, and share our opinions on what offers the best value for money.
The name of a local service also cropped up time and time again, potentially pointing to its suitability as a good jack of all trades option.
Before we discuss the best ways to stream sports in SA, we round up some of the top news stories of the week.
Starting things off are some rather shortsighted comments from new Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who said technical issues, and not corruption is to blame for ongoing energy crisis.
Next is TikTok CEO Shou Chew, who appeared before Congress to discuss alleged ties of the platform’s parent company to the Chinese government, with many minds already made up on the subject.
The last item for news was AI-generated images of former President Donald Trump getting arrested. These falsified pictures gained a lot of traction online, showcasing just how AI can be used to spread misinformation online.
MENTIONED IN THIS AFRICAST:
- Minister of Electricity says corruption isn’t the problem at Eskom,
- Congress continues push to ban TikTok in the US,
- These are not photos of Donald Trump getting arrested,
- Facebook on Myanmar – “We weren’t doing enough”,
- Artists fight back against AI art but it won’t be enough,
- Facebook says that Cambridge Analytica debacle could affect 87 million users.
