MultiChoice creates new technology division

  • MultiChoice has announced that it created a new technology division within the company.
  • This new division is focused on optimising delivery of products and services, taking effect from 1st April.
  • It will comprise the Broadcast Technology Division, DStv Streaming Technology and more.

Every company is a digital one. It is why MultiChoice has announced a new technology division within its organisation.

It explains that the new division will house the Broadcast Technology Division, Enterprise Business Systems, Group digital, DStv Streaming Technology, and Project Management Office, with it being led by a group chief technology officer.

While the key objectives of this new division have not been spelled out explicitly, it looks like MultiChoice is aiming to be the go-to service provider when it comes to entertainment, news, and sports in SA, with digital platforms and offerings playing a significant role in that regard.

“We are repositioning our technology area to lead our next growth phase and to deliver on our vision of becoming the technology platform of choice for African households. We have consolidated everything related to technology, engineering, and technical divisions into a technology hub,” explains MultiChoice Group CEO, Calvo Mawela.

We have already seen the company launch its long-awaited DStv Streama offering earlier this year, so perhaps more similar announcements are on the offing?

“To be able to drive the key focus areas of the business and guide our employees through this period of evolution, we have therefore made the following leadership changes effective 1 April 2023,” it noted in a press release sent to Hypertext.

As for who will be helming this new division, Nyiko Shiburi will take on the role of group chief technology officer.

“He will lead all the technology divisions across the MultiChoice Group. He has been leading MultiChoice South Africa for the past three years prior to his role as the Regional Director for MultiChoice Southern Region,” the release adds.

“Nyiko has extensive leadership experience in the technology space having grown within the MultiChoice ranks from Senior Manager for broadcast engineering and Group GM for the broadcast technology division. His technology background and experience together with his commercial experience from having ran SA and the Southern Region places him in good stead to lead this new division and deliver the best technology to achieve our goals,” concludes Mawela.
