Disney+ reminds customers to renew annual subscriptions at R1190

  • Disney+ has begun notifying its annual subscribers of an impending renewal for the streaming service come 18th May.
  • If you’re an annual subscriber, the price for the coming year’s worth of access to Disney+ is set at R1 190.
  • It also serves as a reminder for those who wish to cancel the service before next month’s renewal date.

We are a little over one month away from Disney+ reaching its one year anniversary in South Africa.

While the first few months of access have proved mixed owing to our region having access to a “lite” version of the streaming platform’s application, Disney+ has seemingly gone from strength to strength, making more original TV series and movies available to South Africans to watch legally.

As we near said one year anniversary on 18th May 2023, Disney+ has begun to send out alerts to subscribers to remind them about renewals. This is specifically for annual subscribers, many of whom, including ourselves, took advantage of the launch offer last year that gave 12 months’ worth of access for a lower price of R950.

The SMS, which we have also received, says the following:

“We hope you’re enjoying Disney+. Your next annual payment will be on May 18, 2023. Amount to the billed: 1190.00. We look forward to providing Disney+ for another year.”

For those wanting to renew, it looks like doing so for the annual plan does still net you some sort of discount. This as the monthly subscription price is R119 in comparison. Over the course of 12 months, you’re essentially getting two months for “free” compared to those who pay monthly.

Those who have been less than enamoured by the offering of Disney+ will need to cancel their subscription before the 18th May renewal date comes into effect.

If you need a guide on how to do so, we’ve covered that previously here too.

While Disney would never disclose such figures, it would be interesting to see how many annual subscribers will choose not to renew. This number may serve as an indication as to how well received the offering has been to date.

To our mind at least, the streaming service has improved in recent months, not to mention having full access to much of Marvel’s, FOX’s, and original ESPN documentaries, having made the experience better.

That said, the pricing is still quite high when compared to the other platforms out there.

Either way, this serves as a public service announcement for those who may or may not renew next month.
