Huawei to debut SA-bound flagship devices next month

  • Huawei is set to host a devices-focused event in the Middle East and South Africa during May.
  • The company is reportedly planning to launch two new flagship products – the P60 Pro and Mate X3.
  • South Africa still remains a key territory for Huawei when it comes to flagship phones.

May is set to be an important month for Huawei, particular on the consumer electronics side of the business as the company is planning to host events in the Middle East and South Africa. While both events will be focused on flagship products, the latter will see said devices receive local availability and pricing details.

As for the devices in question, Huawei Mobile South Africa is yet to officially confirm which devices are coming, but a quick visit to the company’s local online landing page will see the P60 Pro and Mate X3 feature as products that consumers can find out more about.

At the time of writing links to purchase are still in the offing, but the impending launch of both phones makes sense, especially as they were revealed as Chinese exclusives earlier this year.

It therefore looks like South Africa remains a key territory for Huawei when it comes to flagship phones.

For now we’re awaiting word on when the local event is slated for, but the Middle East one is set for 10th May. As such, the SA one should follow shortly thereafter, but when a date is confirmed, we’ll be sure to keep our readers informed.

In the interim, we can take a look at the two flagship phones.

The P60 Pro (pictured in the header above) is much like its predecessors in the P series, with a 6.67″ quad curve display, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G processor, up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, as well as three lenses on the rear – 48MP primary, 48MP telephoto, and 13MP ultra wide-angle.

One of the interesting elements to this device is the Rococo Pearl model, which features a rear cover made to look like mother of pearl. Huawei adds that each rear cover is different, so there are no versions of this phone that look the same.

The Mate X3 is the latest foldable from Huawei. It features a different folding design compared to some of the other foldables that the company has launched in SA.

The company is also highlighting its thinness and lightness, with it being 5.3mm thin and tipping the scales at 239g. It’s display has been given the Kunlun Glass treatment and is four times more impact resistant than previous iterations, along with being IPX8 rated for water resistance.

With more details set to follow from Huawei in the coming days, we’ll be sure to keep local fans of the brand updated on what to expect.
