Curro to host school esports tournament in Western Cape next month

  • The Curro Clash LAN is happening at Curro Durbanville Primary School in Cape Town on 23rd and 24th June.
  • Schools across the Western Cape are invited to enter the esports tournament, with entries closing on 7th June.
  • Schools will compete in Minecraft Education Capture the Flag, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League.

Curro appears to be focusing heavily on school esports, with a tournament set to take place in the Western Cape next month. The Curro Clash LAN will take place at Curro Durbanville Primary School in Cape Town on 23rd and 24th June, the educational institution confirmed in a press release.

“For the very first time, other schools are invited to join the eSports action alongside Curro schools. Approximately 200 young gamers from primary and secondary schools across the Western Cape are invited to enter to compete in a variety of spine-tingling games over the course of two adrenaline-fueled days,” it said.

Registrations for the school esports tournament close on 7th June.

Schools will compete in Minecraft Education Capture the Flag, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League.

Each team will play the same number of games and their scores ranked to find the winners who will take home a fantastic selection of prizes, sponsored by Acer.

It is also worth noting that entry fees are at R200 per station, which includes, “a comfortable chair, enough tablespace, and LAN, and power connections. A selection of food stalls and other exhibitors will be available on-site for gamers and their supporters.”

“Our partnership with Acer allowed Curro to set the stage for numerous inter-Curro eSports tournaments since 2021. We want to continue redefining the landscape of eSports throughout South Africa and share this phenomenal experience with fellow schools, especially primary school learners, as there are currently limited eSports opportunities for them,” added Magdeleen de Kock, Curro’s Digital Transformation Facilitator and esports project lead.
