This evening Huawei Mobile South Africa held an event to mark the local launch of two new flagship phones in the form of the P60 Pro and Mate X3. This comes a week after the company held an event in Dubai to highlight its latest lineup of flagship devices for the Middle East and Africa region.

Both phones are currently up for pre-order on Huawei’s South African online store, but officially go on sale come 1st June 2023. In terms of recommended pricing outside of the pre-order window, the P60 Pro is listed at R24 999 and the Mate X3 starts at R44 999.

We have already written extensively about the P60 Pro, which is in for review at Hypertext (keep an eye out for that soon), so let’s focus on what the Mate X3 has to offer. This is the third foldable phone that the company has launched in South Africa, along with being the first with an inward fold in the style of the Galaxy Z Fold series.

Unlike the P60 Pro, which is being sold in two colour options (Black and Rococo Pearl), the comes only in Dark Green. Huawei has also highlighted the thin and lightweight design of the Mate X3, which measures 11.08mm when folded and tips the scales at 239g.

In terms of the actual foldable display it’s a 7.85″ OLED screen, 2496×2224 resolution with 120Hz refresh rate and 426ppi. Added to this is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G processor, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, and 4 800mAh battery. Lastly, a trio of lenses feature in the rear camera array – 50MP wide-angle, 13MP ultra wide-angle, and 12MP telephoto.
