Stage 6 loadshedding to be implemented from 16:00 today

  • Eskom has issued a power alert to confirm that it will be raising loadshedding to Stage 6 this afternoon from 16:00.
  • The power utility says it will rotate between Stages 6 and 4 until further notice.
  • Delays in the return of 10 generating units are the reason behind this latest change in loadshedding.

It did not take long for Eskom to announce an increase in the loadshedding level this week, with Stage 6 now set to be implemented from 16:00 this afternoon.

The utility issued a power alert earlier today informing of the increased loadshedding, adding that Stage 4 is expected to take effect from 05:00 tomorrow morning. It is expected to rotate between these two stages until further notice, as South Africans continue to battle blackouts as Winter weather pushes demand too.

The reason for the increased stage, according to Eskom, is the fact that as many as 10 generating units were delayed in terms of their expected return to service.

Eskom added that breakdowns currently sit at 18 751MW, while a further 2 407MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.

The power utility has once again reiterated that citizens use electricity sparingly at this time, asking for people to turn off their geysers between the hours of 17:00 to 21:00, saddling South Africans for the burden of dealing with higher volumes of blackouts too.

Updates will be shared should any significant changes occur, Eskom confirmed, but as always, we advise downloading the EskomSePush application to stay up to date for loadshedding in your area.
