Xiaomi has announced the local availability of one of its latest affordable smartphones – the Redmi 12C.
The company is billing it as a must-have device based on its price. To that end, the Redmi 12C is recommended to retail for R2 999, with local retailers already listing it and a handful also bundling the phone with a 10 000mAh power bank.
As for what the 12C is packing, it features a MediaTek Helio G85 processor internally. This is pared with 4GB RAM, 64GB onboard storage, and support for up to 1TB of expandable storage. Added to this is a dual SIM slot, with the primary option being nano SIM in nature.
One of the big selling points of this device is its massive battery though, which should be good for a full day and then some with a 5 000mAh unit. Xiaomi is claiming up to 34 hours of call time, or 20 hours of video playback, with a 10W charger included in the box.
Looking at other elements a 6.71″ HD+ display is present with a dewdrop-style notch for the front facing camera. Speaking of which, the selfie camera is 5MP, and the rear array features a trio of options led by a 50MP primary lens.
“With its 50MP main camera which comes equipped with powerful HDR and Night mode for clearer city nightscape pictures, now is the perfect time to capture all our vivid moments with greater detail, thanks to the Redmi 12C,” highlights Xiaomi in a press release sent to Hypertext.
In terms of colour options, two are being made available in South Africa with Graphic Grey or Ocean Blue.
“Get your hands on the Redmi 12C at Xiaomi stores, Sandton City and Canal Walk Cape Town, Takealot, Vodacom, MTN and various retail stores nationwide,” Xiaomi concluded.
