Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gets October release date

  • Insomniac Games revealed more details regarding its upcoming release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  • The PS5-exclusive game is set to release on 20th October, with pre-orders opening up on 16th June.
  • The Digital Deluxe Edition was also revealed, which includes five unique skins each for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Last night Geoff Keighley and co. kicked off the Summer Games Fest, highlighting the AAA and indie titles that are on the horizon, or in the early phases of development. One of the former titles was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which now has a release date of 20th October.

The PS5-exclusive title is also going up for pre-order on 16th June, although South African pricing for the standard edition is yet to be confirmed. That said, given that Mortal Kombat 1 is already up for pre-order at R1 379, we’re expecting Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to be in the same region.

Along with confirming the release date, Insomniac Games’ creative director Bryan Intihar, who spoke with Keighley onstage in the video below, also detailed that there will be a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, as well as showcasing some concept art of two of the antagonists – Kraven the Hunter and Venom.

“The Digital Deluxe edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ($79.99 / £79.99/ €89.99/ ¥9,980 MSRP) will include the game, all the pre-order incentives, as well as 10 unique suits (5 for Peter, 5 for Miles), additional Photo Mode frames and stickers, and 2 additional skill points,” added PlayStation in a blog post.

“Additionally, we are excited to announce that these 10 suits were designed by guest artists across comics, films, and PlayStation Studios! The featured artists are Kris Anka, Julia Blattman, Sweeney Boo, Anthony Francisco, Raf Grassetti, Jerad Maantz, Joel Mandish, Darren Quach, and Victoria Ying,” it continued.

There is also a Collector’s Edition that will be available, although stock for this iteration will depend on the region you’re in.

“The Collector’s Edition ($229.99 / £219.99/ €249.99/ ¥31,980 MSRP) includes a voucher for the Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as a Steelbook case, and an extraordinary, high-quality 19-inch statue featuring our Spider-Men battling fan-favorite Venom,” PlayStation noted.

“Fans can order the Collector’s Edition on PlayStation Direct in those select markets (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal) starting at 10AM local time on June 16th, 2023,” it continued.

While we are yet to play the game, much is already expected of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, especially as it has some impressive predecessors to live up to. Either way, this is already shaping up to be the most-anticipated game release for the latter half of 2023.
