htxt.africast – What’s on our radar for August

It is the final week of the month, and as has become recent tradition here at Hypertext we throw forward to the next month on the africast and select the must-watch or play games, series, and movies. We do the same here, selecting a number of new properties set to arrive in August.

Before that, however, we round up the biggest news of the week.

While we would normally need to discuss the trash fire that is Elon Musk’s rebrand of Twitter to X, we are instead focusing on the Galaxy Unpacked event that Samsung hosted on 26th July, unveiling and then showcasing its new foldables – the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip5.

We’re split in the office as to which of the two devices is the more impressive, but we are agreed on the fact that it will be interesting to see who buys these foldables, especially as Samsung is aiming the Flip5 squarely at the Gen Z crowd.

As for the meat and potatoes of this week’s africast, and the picks run a fairly wide gamut.

We have chosen the remastered version of Oldboy which lands in local cinemas on 16th August. Our other movie picks include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem and Blue Beetle, and for those interested in a series we’ve chosen Painkiller and the divisive live-action One Piece. As for games, Armored Core VI and Baldur’s Gate 3, both of which look promising and seem like you’ll be able to pour homes of gameplay into.
