Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab S9 series

  • The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series has been announced at Galaxy Unpacked.
  • There are three iterations in the series name the base S9, the S9 Plus and S9 Ultra.
  • The tablet ships with the new Slim S-Pen and features a special indent for the stylus on the rear.

While the focus was clearly on the new foldables at this afternoon’s Galaxy Unpacked presentation in South Korea, Samsung also unveiled a refreshed lineup of tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series includes the base S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra. We managed to get a hands-on with the Ultra iteration so that’s where our focus is for now.

This slate measures nearly 15 inches and it’s running a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 below the Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. Speaking of, the refresh rate of the display is rated at 120Hz and it also supports HDR10+.

To support use in more places than the office and art studio, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra sports IP68 water and dust resistance.

However, it appears as if Samsung really wants folks to use this tablet for creative endeavours. The manufacturer announced support for applications such as Arc Site, Clip Studio Paint and Luma Fusion with this tablet. Whether folks will use it for video editing remains to be seen and while it may technically be possible, we have to wonder whether the experience will be comparable to editing video on a notebook.

The newer Slim S-Pen will be bundled with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and it integrates with the body of the tablet more naturally. The storage area for the stylus features bi-directional wireless charging so no matter which way you attach it to the body of the slate it will charge and remain attached to the tablet.

There is a pair of camera sensors at the rear of the tablet with a 13MP and 8MP taking on the duties of capturing images. Up front there is a pair of 12MP sensors.

One of the more interesting features Samsung touted was Multi Control which allows you to share content across your devices much like one would with Apple products. It’s a nice touch and should help those who are using a variety of Samsung products to more easily share content and the like.

In addition to better multitasking, including a taskbar for recently accessed apps, the Galaxy Tab S9 sure is looking like a great portable workhorse even if we’re not sure it’s entirely a replacement for a PC just yet.

Samsung has not shared pricing or availability of the Galaxy Tab S9, but as soon we know we’ll be sure to share that information with you.
