Shoprite Group opens bursary applications for IT professionals

  • Shoprite Group is looking for IT professionals who hope to further their skillsets.
  • Data science graduates are invited to apply to join Shoprite’s Data Science Academy.
  • BSc and BCom students in IT and Systems Analysis that meet the following requirements to apply to join the SAP Academy at Shoprite Group.

Careers that relate to information technology (IT) occupy a fair number of positions in South Africa’s list of critical skills, skills that are critical to the success of the nation. Fostering education locally is of vital importance and to encourage more folks to pursue a career in the IT sector, Shoprite Group has opened bursary applications for the July period.

There are currently only two fields in the IT sector that Shoprite has bursaries for namely: Information Technology/Systems and Data Science. That having been said there are 10 bursaries in each of these fields for a total of 20.

The Data Science bursary is specifically for those with a degree or post-graduate qualification in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research, Quantitative Management (or similar quantitative degree), Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, and Data Engineering.

The requirements for this bursary are quite high:

  • 60%+ Aggregate,
  • Minimum of 65 percent in Mathematics from 2nd year of study,
  • Student in 2nd to 4th year of study or Honours,
  • SA Citizen,
  • 27 years old or younger.

“Shoprite has successfully started its very own Data Science Academy, producing top-level specialists in the field of data science. Successful applicants will join the pipeline for the academy. With a plan to keep this academy growing in the years to come, Shoprite is now looking for university students who have a passion for data and would like to make the data academy their starting point in an exciting career,” Shoprite Group tells applicants.

As for the Information Technology/Systems bursary this is meant to attract those who want to join Shoprite Group’s own SAP Academy.

“Shoprite has successfully started its very own SAP Academy, producing top-level specialists in the field of System Analysis. Successful applicants will join the pipeline for the academy,” reads the bursary’s description.

Those studying Systems or Functional Analysis are invited to submit an application here.

The company invites BSc and BCom students in IT and Systems Analysis that meet the following requirements to apply:

  • Student in 2nd, 3rd or 4th academic year of study,
  • 60%+ academic aggregate,
  • SA Citizen,
  • 27 years old or younger.
