Story trailer and Limited Edition console revealed for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

  • In the lead up to Marvel Spider-Man 2’s October release, a new story trailer for the game has surfaced.
  • It features a number of elements, including Peter Parker’s friendship with Harry Osborne, and a few more shots of Venom.
  • PlayStation also revealed a Limited Edition PS5 console and DualSense Controller that go up for pre-order in selected regions next week.

We are now three months away from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releasing as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. To keep the hype going for this highly anticipated title, the first story trailer for the game surfaced online.

Although being less than two minutes in length, developer Insomniac Games and PlayStation have crammed plenty into the 116-second long video embedded below.

In it we see a few crucial beats, such as Kraven and his hunters infiltrating the city, the symbiote being discovered, and Peter Parker rekindling his friendship with Harry Osborne. It’s unclear if the latter will lead to a Green Goblin-related element to the story, as for now Venom and the black symbiote spider-suit appear to be the most important aspects.

We see Mary-Jane becoming increasingly concerned for Peter’s wellbeing, which could see him and Miles Morales come to blows.

“At the beginning of our story, our Spider-Men are at the top of their game, but both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are struggling with their personal lives,” explains senior narrative director Jon Paquette, regarding what the game’s story will serve up.

“Miles is trying to find time to write his college entrance essay, but he keeps procrastinating and focusing on Spider-Work instead. Meanwhile, Peter is underwater on payments for Aunt May’s house, but he can’t sell, it means too much to him. And just like Miles, Peter tries (and fails) to find balance with so many responsibilities. MJ wants to help Pete with the mortgage, but her job is on the line now that J. Jonah Jameson is back at the Bugle and looking to clean house. Our heroes have arrived at a confluence of crossroads, with uncertain futures, and some tough decisions ahead,” he added in a blog post.

Paquette likely left a lot out of the above, as there will no doubt be a few twists and surprise reveals in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as was the case with the original title and the Miles Morales DLC.

Along with the story trailer, PlayStation also revealed some newly branded hardware.

More specifically Limited Edition versions of the PS5 console and DualSense controller, both of which go up for pre-order in selected regions come 28th July. At the time of writing it is unclear whether SA falls under this same window, but it’s best to check out local retailers like KOODOO when next week Friday rolls around.

While you’ll need to buy a new DualSense Controller to get your hands on the Limited Edition version, it looks like PlayStation will also be selling the PS5 covers separately.

“If you already own a PS5 console, we have great news for you, too. You can also purchase the PS5 Console Covers – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition, PS5 Digital Edition Console Covers – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition,” a blog post clarified.

No official pricing for the new hardware has been outlined just yet, as is how limited they precisely will be.
