- Honor South Africa held an event to announce the launch of two new devices locally as part of the Honor 90 5G series.
- Both devices go on sale locally next month, with pricing for the series starting at R7 999.
- Along with the two phones, Honor confirmed the impending arrival of its Watch 4, as well as other devices later this year.
In July we were on hand for the Middle East and Africa launch of the Honor 90 5G series of smartphones.
At the time, Honor South African confirmed the new devices were expected in SA in September, and true to its word, the brand hosted an event to mark the launch and impending availability of the Honor 90 5G and 90 Lite 5G.
Now both devices are being made available through networks like MTN, Telkom, and Vodacom, with the company also detailing bundled offers that will be marketed to local smartphone fans.
To that end, the Honor 90 5G is recommended to retail for R14 999 (12GB RAM and 512GB storage), which will be paired with an Honor Watch 4 for free, that’s valued at R3 499. The Honor 90 Lite 5G comes in at R7 999 (8GB RAM and 256GB storage), which will be bundled with an Honor CHOICE Earbuds X5 for free.

In terms of capabilities, Honor has highlighted the massive 200MP primary lens on the rear of the 90 5G, with it also boasting built-in AI functionality and image stabilisation that lend themselves to content creation, according to the company. Added to this is an AI Vlog Master suite of tools, which include Instant Movie, AI Video Recommendationm and AI Noise Reduction.
“With Instant Movie, users can transform their footage into a captivating 15-second video clip, perfectly tailored for social media sharing. In just one second, your masterpiece is ready to be unleashed. Through AI Video Recommendation, the HONOR 90 5G analyses the scene and recommends the ideal video mode from five available modes, which include: Portrait Video, HDR Video, Close-up, Multi-video, and Solo Cut mode,” Honor explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.
“HONOR has also introduced the game-changing AI Noise Reduction feature, which utilises AI technology to remove background noise from videos. This ensures clear human voices without distractions from surrounding sounds, offering vloggers and video creators a hassle-free way to capture high-quality content,” it added.
