Lamborghini to unveil first fully electric vehicle this week

  • Lamborghini is readying to reveal its first ever all-electric vehicle to the world later this week.
  • The reveal is set for 18th August for the yet-to-be officially named EV.
  • Lamborghini announced plans to develop an all-electric car two years ago.

Italian luxury supercar maker Lamborghini is readying to reveal yet another expensive and likely ludicrously fast vehicle this week.

What makes this instance different is that it will be the company’s first-ever fully-electric vehicle, with the yet-to-be-named offering set to be unveiled to the world come 18th August at the Monterey Car Week.

Lamborghini teased the unveiling via its official X account, sharing an image of the EV showing elements of the top half of the car.

While the above image does indeed showcase a vehicle that some unmistakable Lamborghini DNA, it remains to be seen what guise this vehicle will take. As such, it is unclear for now at least whether this will be an out-and-out supercar, or perhaps even a hypercar, or whether it will be SUV in nature, which is a category the Italian carmaker has dabbled in of late with the Urus.

Either way, this is a segment that Lamborghini is actively looking to participate in. As The Verge correctly points out, it has been two years since the company first signalled its intent to develop a lineup of hybrid and all-electric vehicles.

To that end, by the end of 2024 the company plans to have plug-in hybrid versions of its entire lineup of models, adding that before 2023, another all-new fully electric vehicle will be unveiled too. One new hybrid, the 2024 Revuelto, already boasts some enviable specifications, which include a trio of electric motors paired with a massive 6.5 litre V12 petrol engine to develop 746kW of power and a 0-100km/h time of 2.5 seconds.

How petrolheads will respond to a Lamborghini sans any traditional fuel-powered engine and drivetrain remains to be seen. All we know is, it better be fast.
