Makro issues price freeze on selected bulk meat items this month

  • Makro has issued a prize freeze on selected bulk meat purchases until the end of August.
  • The retailer announced the price freeze in an effort to counter the recent meat inflation increase and get more customers into its stores.
  • Deals highlighted in the price freeze include Bulk Lean Beef Mince costing R79 per kg.

South Africans are feeling the pinch everywhere as the economic downturn and rising cost of living have made the situation untenable for many. Acutely aware of this, and hoping to offer some slight respite during what’s left in August is Makro, which has announced a price freeze on selected bulk meat purchases.

The price freeze is from today until 31st August, with the mass retailer noting that the recent meat inflation per Statistics South Africa, will hit consumers in their wallet.

“We understand the economic hardships our customers face. That’s why we have decided to implement a butchery price freeze to support households nationwide, providing much-needed relief to our valued customers and ensuring they can continue to access quality meat products at stable and affordable prices,” highlighted Katherine Madley, VP of Brand Marketing at Massmart, in a press release sent to Hypertext.

As for the bulk meat items that are frozen until the end of the month, Makro listed the following:

  • Bulk Lean Beef Mince – R79 per kg,
  • Bulk Pork Pack – R45 per kg,
  • Bulk 6 Pack Beef Potjiekos – R79 per kg,
  • Big BBQ Braai 20 Portions per ~ 2kg box -R59 per kg.

“We understand that every cent counts in this current economy. That’s why we want to empower our customers to navigate these tough times comfortably,” added Madley.

Makro has confirmed that the price freeze has been implemented at all its stores nationwide.
